Each year CrossFit gives athletes the chance to compete on an international level during the CrossFit Open. Individuals take part in 5 workouts to test their overall work capacity that test not only their strength, but also challenges their aerobic capacity.
During the Open areas of the world are broken into regions. At the conclusion of the Open the top 48 male and female athletes and the top 30 teams are invited to take part in Regionals. From Regionals, the top athletes will asked to move forward to the CrossFit Games where the overall winner will go home crowned “Fittest on Earth” and $250,000 richer.
In 2013 we were fortunate enough to not only have one athlete partake in Regionals, but we also sent a team. Former athlete and coach Paul Buono was able to hold his own and stay with the top flight up until the final event. Team CrossFit LionHeart was able to prove they belonged when it came to a 7 minute AMRAP of burpees and muscle ups that disqualified 5 of the top 30 teams.
Even though CrossFit LionHeart didn’t advance to the CrossFit Games we were able to place ourselves on the radar for the Mid Atlanctic Region. While we have lost some integral parts of the 2013 Regional team we have gained some key members and are looking to make a repeat performance. Congratulations again to our team, you have shown how hard work and consistency can pay off!
